About Tax Forms Helper

Why This Exists

I've managed my own tax filings since age 18 — starting with simple W-2 jobs, then moving into gig work (driving for multiple platforms), freelancing, and eventually running my own sole proprietorship business.

Every single year, I hit the same wall: IRS forms written in legal language that assumes you already know what everything means. I'd spend hours Googling "what does Box 1 mean on a W-9" or "do I use my SSN or EIN" — and most answers were either too vague ("consult a tax professional") or buried in 50-page IRS publications.

So I built what I wished existed: line-by-line guides that actually explain what each box means, in plain English, with real examples.

My Tax Experience

  • Self-filed since age 18 — handled my own returns every year, never hired a preparer
  • Gig worker experience — driven for rideshare and delivery apps, tracked mileage, managed 1099-K and 1099-NEC forms
  • Sole proprietorship owner — operated a custom woodworking business, filed Schedule C, tracked business expenses
  • LLC formation experience — formed an LLC, applied for EIN, navigated single-member vs. multi-member structures
  • Real receipts, real tracking — used mileage tracking apps, kept digital receipts, structured exemptions to maximize returns

The Mission

Tax forms shouldn't require a law degree to understand. This site exists to:

  • Break down IRS forms into plain English
  • Show real examples (not generic "John Doe" nonsense)
  • Point out the mistakes people actually make
  • Save you hours of Googling

Everything here comes from firsthand experience — these are the forms I've filled out myself, the mistakes I've made (and fixed), and the questions I've had to figure out the hard way.

I'm not a CPA, tax attorney, or enrolled agent. I'm someone who has successfully filed their own taxes for years and built this resource to help others do the same.

This site provides educational information only — it's not personalized tax advice. Always verify information with the IRS or a qualified tax professional before filing, especially if your situation is complex.

What I can offer: clear explanations of what the forms mean, common scenarios gig workers face, and the questions you should be asking. What I can't offer: specific advice on your unique tax situation.
